My cousin, Blaise, Keeton answered a bit slower.
And, you said he is a shifter?
Yes, and I was wondering if I needed to get Xander s permission,
what with him being the alpha, and this being his territory.
Logan thought for a moment before he answered. It would
probably be a good idea to let Xander know, but you don t exactly
have to ask his permission. He paused again then asked, What kind
of shifter is your cousin?
Eh, a wolf, Keeton responded. What do you shift into, Logan?

A snow leopard, he mumbled. He really didn t want to have this
conversation over the phone. Keeton knew quite a bit about shifters,
but not about Logan s particular breed. They would need to have that
conversation soon, just not now.
What? Keeton sounded curious, nothing else.
A snow leopard, Logan repeated more clearly.
Oh, no shit? That s awesome! I bet you are gorgeous. When can
I see you shift?
Logan fell into a shocked silence. He had to remind himself that
his little mate didn t understand the curse he lived with as a white-
pelted shifter. His kind had been hunted for as long as he could
remember& sometimes by their own families.
I will show you whenever you want.
Yay! Okay, I ll let you get back to work.
Logan chuckled at his lover s enthusiasm. I ll see you when I get
home. He glanced at his watch and groaned. In eight more hours.
Can you call me on your break? You get a break, right?
My break is in about three hours. I ll talk to you then, unless I m
out on a call.
Can t wait. Later. Then the call disconnected.
Logan grinned and slid his phone back into his pocket. Keeton
embodied everything he had ever wanted in a mate. He had a big
heart, a kind soul, and a zest for life that often left Logan stumbling to
keep up.
He didn t understand half the things Keeton said sometimes, but
he listened with rapt attention, enjoying the animation in his mate s
voice, the excitement on his face.
Logan couldn t wait to get home.

Chapter Ten
You can t hide forever, honey.
Keeton glared at his best friend. I m not hiding anything, Brax. I
don t know what you re talking about.
Keeton already felt out of sorts because Logan had never called
him back. Yes, his mate had a job to do, but that didn t mean he had
to like it. A few hours before, he had been happy to see Logan
leaving, but now, he missed him like crazy.
You know exactly what I m talking about. Braxton s voice
brought him out of his thoughts. Logan will love you no matter what,
Keeton. You need to stop pretending to be something you re not.
What the hell is that supposed to mean? he snapped.
Braxton sighed and threw his hands up in frustration. Will you
just cut the bullshit? You ve been wearing my clothes. I found all of
your makeup in the trash, and you haven t painted your nails in
weeks. You pretend to like those gross slasher flicks, and you ate a
fucking hamburger last night. Since when do you eat meat? Braxton
was on a roll, and Keeton didn t think he d get a word in any time
soon.
Hell, even the way you talk has changed, Braxton ranted. I
haven t heard one smartass comment out of your mouth since you
came home from the hospital. You re driving me insane! He paused
to take a deep breath. I want my best friend back, Keeton, he added,
his tone almost pleading.
Keeton didn t know how to respond. What could he say? Braxton
had said it all.
What if he doesn t like me? I mean, the me that I usually am, he

whispered.
Then he doesn t deserve you, honey. Braxton gave him a
crooked grin and patted Keeton s bent knee. If you keep this up,
you re just going to be miserable. You and Logan both deserve better
than that. Have a little faith in your mate.
Keeton leaned back against his pillows and sighed. He s not like
anyone I ve ever dated, Brax. There s the fact that he s just
so& so& huge! He s big, and tough, and strong, but he s also sweet, [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
